Teacher Certification

This page provides information and links for students seeking either an undergraduate or post baccalaureate certificate to teach history and social studies at the high school level.  UNC-Charlotte requires that all students seeking this Comprehensive Social Studies licensure have a B.A. in History with coursework in education and social studies content areas. 

The material pertaining to this course of study is divided into the following categories; students in the program or considering the program are encouraged to visit each one.

Program Requirements

A description of the program both undergraduate and post baccalaureate students must follow, including an explanation of the requirements for the major and the social studies courses and links to College of Education pages on teacher licensure requirements.

Praxis II

Information on the PRAXIS II social studies content area test. Includes info and links about the test, sample questions, who needs to take the test, and advice on how to do well. Also on this website are the workshop announcements, located under the Educational Outreach section.

Hints and Help

The answers to frequently asked questions about the history major and teacher education programs and information on where to get help; the results of a survey of graduates of this program currently working in the schools with recommendations about class, Praxis, and preparing to teach; suggestions from the History faculty to help you with course selection; suggestions by students.
